The SLS Academy is our in-house learning and development programme designed to help residents build new skills, regain confidence, and take steps towards greater independence and employment.
All courses are free to residents and delivered in a supportive, non-pressured environment. Whether you want to learn how to use a smartphone, cook nutritious meals on a budget, or prepare for a job interview, the Academy has something for you.
The Academy runs both group workshops and one-to-one sessions, so you can learn at your own pace in the format that works best for you.

Learn to use smartphones, tablets, and computers confidently. Access the internet, use email, and stay safe online. Essential skills for modern life and employment.
Learn to cook healthy, affordable meals from scratch. Understand food safety and hygiene, plan meals on a budget, and develop the confidence to cook independently.
Cover essential everyday skills including budgeting, using public transport, managing appointments, writing letters, and navigating public services.
CV writing, job searching, interview preparation, and understanding workplace rights. Build the confidence to find and keep work.
Workshops on mental health, physical activity, healthy relationships, and self-care. Learn strategies for managing stress and building resilience.
Creative workshops including art, music, photography, and writing. A great way to express yourself, build confidence, and meet other residents.
